Airlines IA eases curbs on senior citizen discount Our Bureau
New Delhi , July 16 INDIAN Airlines (IA) has eased the restrictions for senior citizens for the senior citizens discount. The airline has withdrawn the earlier requirement of buying confirmed tickets a week before travel for the reduced fares. The airline offers a 50-per cent discount on the basic fare for senior citizens. However, those availing themselves of the discount will have to stay a minimum of three nights at the destination or an intermediate point in case they are taking a round or circle trip. While a trip on Delhi-Bangalore-Delhi route would qualify as a round trip, a Delhi-Bangalore-Chennai-Delhi journey with a minimum stay of three nights in both Bangalore and Chennai will qualify a passenger to travel under the senior citizen discount scheme. Sources said the condition of minimum three nights stay has been placed to restrict business travel on senior citizen concession and segregate the two categories of leisure and business travellers.
