HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Governor, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, said the sole purpose of the co-operative societies should be the upliftment of weaker sections of the society.

And to suit the fast changing environment, the co-operative movement should be made more vibrant.

Addressing the Co-operative Centenary Celebrations here at the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University, he said as a century has already passed after the formation of co-operative societies, it is time to grow the movement with much expertise and speed.

Viewing that co-operative movement ensures equal opportunity to the weaker sections of the society, the Governor said co-operatives should protect the economic interests of its members.
