General Insurance Apollo Hospitals ED stresses on need for medical insurance Our Bureau
Hyderabad , July 17 THE Apollo Hospitals Executive Director, Ms Sangita Reddy, has stressed the need to bring more people under the medical insurance system for offering cost-effective healthcare. Speaking at the inaugural of the 7th annual conference of Paediatric Cardiac Society of India (PCSI), she said that less than two per cent of the Indian population was currently covered under medical insurance. Ms Reddy urged the Government, hospitals, doctors, and the media to play their respective vital roles in increasing awareness among the public on health insurance. The Director of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Prasada Rao, said that medical science was advancing through availability of superior skills among medical professionals but unfortunately, the lack of finances and infrastructure were limiting their abilities. He stressed the need for dedicated paediatric cardiac centres for providing superior care to children with congenital cardiac malformations. The Joint Organising Secretary of the PCSI conference, Dr Srikanth Raghavan, said that foetal cardiology was fast becoming an important sub-speciality.
