Letters Africa and poverty
This is refers to the article "African poverty: A cry in the wilderness" (Business Line, July 7). African farmers do not have access to the developed world's agricultural markets. In spite of millions of dollars received in aid for reconstruction and development, the living conditions have worsened in many of the continent's countries. Ordinary African coffee and tea farmers believe that the G-8 leaders are out of touch with the ground realities and that unfair trade practices are making African officials rich even as farmers grow steadily poorer.
