Human Resources TN hikes DA for Govt employees Our Bureau
Chennai , July 18 THE Tamil Nadu Government has hiked the Dearness Allowance for Government employees to 67 per cent from 64 per cent with effect from July 1 to be paid in cash. The Government has also decided not to renew the notification under the Tamil Nadu Essential Services Maintenance Act 2002 that prohibited strike in certain essential services. According to an official press release, the announcement covers over 12.33 lakh employees including teachers and 4.37 lakh pensioners at a cost of Rs 201.23 crore a year. The Government hiked the DA in the budget for 2005-06 to 64 per cent with effect from April 1, which brought it on a par with that paid by the Central Government. The hike now again matches the raise in DA by the Centre, the release said. The hike covers all State Government employees including teachers, teaching and non-teaching staff in aided educational institutions, local body employees, noon meal organisers, child welfare organisers, `anganwadi' workers, village assistants in Revenue Department, employees governed by the University Grants Commission, All India Council for Technical Education scales of pay, teachers, physical directors, librarians in Government and aided Polytechnic and Special Diploma Institutions. The hike will also be extended to pensioners. The State Government has also announced a Rs 20 hike a month for those on consolidated pay or drawing Rs 150 honorarium of more than Rs 150 a month as on January 1, 1996, and a hike of Rs 10 a month to those drawing less than Rs 150 a month from July 1. The release said that the notification under Section 3(1) of the Tamil Nadu Essential Services Maintenance Act 2002, which was invoked in July 2003 when the Government employees and teachers went on an indefinite strike, would be not be renewed after it expires on July 23, 2005.
