Human Resources South scores on numbers; other regions on skills Our Bureau
Chennai , July 18 ENGINEERING graduates of Delhi, West Bengal and Maharashtra hubs outscore their counterparts in southern States in IT abilities test, which includes verbal and analytical abilities and mental application. However, the higher availability of talent in the three southern States (Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka) offsetsthis considerably, says a study done by MeritTrac, the Bangalore-based provider of competence assessment and pre-recruitment process outsourcing services. These hubs have been categorised based on the geographical distributions of applicants from that region. For example, the Delhi hub includes candidates from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan, the West Bengal represented the East and Maharashtra, the West, said a company official. The survey was done among 25,000 students in over 800 colleges spread across the country, according to Mr Madan Padaki, co-founder, MeritTrac. The company has assessed over six lakh candidates for over 100 companies across the technology spectrum, and used the data it generated for the survey, he said. One of the major reasons for the low quality of manpower in the southern region was the spurt in new colleges in the last few years. There is a huge gap in the quality of education offered between the likes of Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering Colleges) and the new institutes, he said.
