Letters India-US talks
This is with reference to the article "Bush-Singh summit: Worthwhile mission, despite loose ends" (Business Line, July 20), which is perhaps saying mildly that not much has been achieved during the Prime Minister's recent visit to Washington. Despite the US side-stepping obligations, India has agreed to work with the US on several issues. Of particular significance is its agreeing to place civilian nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards. This has led many to wonder whether the decision would guarantee more transparency and security or harm India's nuclear programme. Considering everyone's expectations from the summit, there is a certain degree of disappointment on some issues. A. Jacob Sahayam Thiruvananthapuram
