AFTER the IT industry, it is the biotechnology sector's turn to rant at Bangalore's hopeless roads and infrastructure. And Chennai, Hyderabad or Pune may be the gainers.

A crumbling Bangalore may be forcing its resident biotechnology major, Biocon Ltd, also to look elsewhere for any future expansion. IT majors like Wipro and Infosys have already expressed their disenchantment with Bangalore.

The CMD, Ms Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, on Wednesday indicated as much, saying on the sidelines of a news conference that she was exasperated with the crumbling infrastructure and the lack of political will to change it.

She said she had lost hopes in the city's capacity to keep pace with growing needs of IT and biotech industries - which the Government considers as elitist.

The company raised Rs 350 crore through an IPO in March 2004 for its capacity expansion at its Hebbagodi facility, some 25 km from the city.
