Chennai , July 21

THE Confederation of Indian Industry plans to hold an international conference on green buildings in New Delhi on September 15 and 16.

Mr C.N. Raghavendran, Chairman, LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) India Committee, Indian Green Building Council, said these seminars and roadshows were necessary to popularise the concepts of green buildings.

He said the green rating system has been tweaked to Indian conditions with emphasis on saving water and emission norms from captive power generation.

Mr Raghavendran said points would be given to practices adopted for construction safety as well as technology used.

Mr ParasuRaman R., Chairman, Indian Green Building Council and Vice-Chairman, World Green Building Council, said there were real economic benefits from building green.

There would be energy savings of up to 50 per cent and water savings of 35 per cent.
