Move to divert Pranahita water to Sripada Sagar

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , July 22

THE State Government will initiate steps for the diversion of 160 TMC feet of water from Pranahita River to Sripada Sagar Project Reservoir by July 2006 thereby creating an additional ayacut of about 12 lakh acres.

The proposed diversion will also augment drinking water for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and also to the industries.

The Government has already taken measures to get all the clearances for the project.

The Chief Minister told BJP leader Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, who met him in this regard that the diversion scheme would facilitate an additional ayacut of about 12 lakh acres in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

The Chief Minister said the Government had issued orders on July 15 for taking up the investigation and preparation of detailed project report.

The Chief Minister observed that every year about 4 lakh cusecs of Godavari water was going waste into the sea.

Keeping this in view, the State Government had resolved to utilise the river water of Krishna and Godavari to the optimal level without allowing a single TMC of water going waste into the sea.
