A worker removing coconut shell at an oil mill near Kochi. Coconut oil prices have declined sharply during the last few months despite prices of other edible oils rising. Increasing competition from other oils and suspicion that it could be adulterated have led to the decline. Currently, coconut oil spot prices are being quoted at Rs 5,295 a quintal against Rs 7,300 at the beginning of the year.
