AP Govt to deploy programme coordinators

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , July 24

THE Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to deploy `Programme Coordinators', for effective monitoring of special schemes being implemented by different departments.

The idea is that senior officers who are chosen for each of the identified programme would review its implementation and progress on a regular basis and submit a detailed report every quarter to the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

The Chief Minister, in turn, would take up an exhaustive analysis at his level and suggest improvements/changes if required to ensure that the benefits reach the targeted sections, especially the poorer sections.

Dr Reddy, who received feedback through face-to-face interaction with Collectors on various issues of development at the two-day collectors conference, contemplated formulating a new strategy by creating Programme Coordinators at the State level.

With a view to ensuring a scientific approach to the entire exercise, the Chief Minister desired that a `ledger' should be maintained in every village in which each developmental activity, the funds earmarked for the purpose and the target achieved are recorded. The same system will be followed in respect of every town in urban area.

In this context, the Chief Minister reiterated that he strongly believed in allowing greater degree of liberty and freedom to the administration in the implementation of various developmental programmes but at the same time called for accountability and responsibility at all levels, as it is considered the key factor in human resources development. It is the collective responsibility of the programme coordinators and District Collectors to ensure successful implementation of schemes to give boost to the growth rate in each sector.

As many as 22 subjects/programmes have been identified for the purpose of comprehensive growth in different sectors.
