Human Resources Virtusa course to hone skills of employees Anjali Prayag
Bangalore , July 24 VIRTUSA Corporation has found a new way of battling skill redundancy among its employees. According to the Chief Software Architect of Virtusa's India Development Centre at Hyderabad, Mr Arjun Mukherjee, the company has used multiskilling to render its executives `well-rounded' by keeping themselves updated on the latest technologies in the industry. "We decided that to effectively fight redundancy, we have to create broad-skilled engineers," Mr Mukherjee told Business Line. Another reason why techies need to dip into a vast pool of knowledge comprising various technologies is because as frontline employees they need to have original independent opinion. "Usually most customer-facing engineers have second-hand info which may be fragile and fragmented," said Mr Mukherjee. Virtusa's is currently offering multiskilling courses in Java and Microsoft.Net. The company is offering beginners' and intermediate level courses in both these technologies. The course was conceptualised, designed and developed by an internal team at the company comprising content creation experts, software developers, review team and a technical writing team. The company used e-learning methodologies to structure the content. After a pilot in April this year, 210 people are currently undergoing the programme.
