Roadways IIM-Bangalore to study APSRTC Our Bureau
Hyderabad , July 25 THE Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), will be asked to take up an in-depth study on how to strengthen and revitalise the State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and ensure profits to the loss-making body. The IIM will be asked to submit its report in two months and suggest a comprehensive package to strengthen the RTC. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajsekhara Reddy, asked the Cabinet sub-committee on APSRTC to engage the services of the institute, when it briefed him about the progress of the talks with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the corporation. The sub-committee claimed that the State Government had accepted a majority of the demands of the JAC. The State Government has accepted the demand of 100 per cent reimbursement of concessions of the corporation, they pointed out. The Minister for Commercial Taxes, Mr K. Ramakrishna, the Minister for Transport and Cooperation, Mr K. Lakshminarayana, members of the Committee; the Chairman, APSRTC, Mr Gone Prakasa Rao, MD APSRTC, Mr M.V. Krishna Rao, and other officials participated in the meeting. Reacting to the Government's move, Mr B. Rama Rao, a JAC leader, felt that there was no need for approaching other agencies to find a solution. Mr R. Lakshmaiah, who represented the Staff and Workers Federation, alleged that the Government was trying to defer the issue till municipal elections were over.
