Mangalore , July 26

TOYOTA Kirloskar Motor is planning to sell 13,900 Innovas in South India in the 2005 calendar year, according to Mr Sailesh Shetty, Deputy General Manager (Sales).

Speaking to newspersons on Tuesday, he said that the Toyota Innova has emerged as the largest selling model in the premium car and multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segments in the South.

The plan for 2005 is to sell 13,900 Innovas and 2,500 Corollas in the South.

The company is aiming at sales of 3,885 Innovas and 860 Corollas in Karnataka during the period.

To be able to cater to the market demand, the company recently doubled the production of high-end Innovas.

Following this, the waiting period has been brought down to a month.

Mr Shetty said that the bookings have crossed 25,000 units with deliveries of over 17,000 units since the launch of Innova.

Currently, Innova has a market share of 34 per cent in South India and 31 per cent in Karnataka in its segment.

Stating that the Corolla commanded 38 per cent of the market share in the executive segment in Karnataka during the January-June period, Mr Shetty said that it has grown by 15 per cent in volume terms over the last year despite the tough market conditions.

The company, which has a market share of 4.7 per cent in the country's automobile sector, wants to increase it to 10 per cent by 2010, he added.
