HCL Infosystems unveils new Toshiba laptops range

Hyderabad , July 27

THE Computer Systems Division of Toshiba Singapore Pte Ltd, in partnership with HCL Infosystems, has announced the launch of a range of feature-rich laptops in the Indian market that coincides with the 20th anniversary of the company's foray into laptops.

Mr Ivan Kam, Distribution Business Manager of Toshiba Singapore, said: "Since the launch of the T1100 in 1985, which weighed four kg, Toshiba has recorded worldwide sales of more than 37 million notebook computers through 2004. Toshiba's T1100 was the first successfully marketed battery-powered mobile computing device that opened the door to today's notebooks, sub-notebooks, and tablet PCs."

The product launch range includes an Ultra-Portable Portege R200, the return of MiniNote Libretto, 14 inch widescreen Satellite M50, and the Qosmio range of high-end TV compatible range as also Tablet PCs, with prices in the range of Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,90,000. The tablet notebook seeks to help a user rediscover the art of writing.

The Indian market for laptops has been growing at a fast clip, estimated at 1,80,000 units in the year 2004, and is projected to nearly double at about 3,40,000 to 3,50,000 units this year.

The Executive Vice-President of HCL Infosystems, Mr Rajendra Kumar, said that the company plans to increase the total number of outlets from 40 to 120 and expand its market share. It currently has a little over 10 per cent share in a market that is growing at 100-120 per cent a year.
