Mangalore , July 27

THE recent announcement of Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) to offer concessions for importers and exporters to utilise the container freight station in the premises of New Mangalore Port has helped in attracting new exporters to move their cargo through the port, according to a press release by the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT).

On July 26, stuffing was done for coffee cargo of Tata Coffee Ltd for export to Switzerland.

The NMPT Chairman has appealed to all the exporters and importers from the hinterland to make use of the facilities.

The release said that the port handled 11 million tonnes of cargo till date, which is 11.62 per cent more than the traffic handled during the corresponding period of the previous year. The port attributed this growth to the increase in the handling of iron ore fines, LPG and coal.

A highest parcel of 54,570 tonnes of iron ore fines was loaded manually in m.v. Placid Sea called at the port on July 19, surpassing the earlier record of 51,500 tonnes loaded in m.v. Kang Chang called at the port on June 29, the release added.
