Flight services yet to resume

Our Bureau

Mumbai , July 27

THOUGH the showers lashing the city have subsided considerably, flight operations are yet to be restored.

All flights since Tuesday evening have been cancelled.

Mr V. Thulasidas, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India, said the airline was in constant touch with the airport authorities. While there have been reports that the airport would open later in the day, the airline had not received confirmation on the same. AI was ready to resume services to Mumbai as soon as it received the nod from the Airports Authority here, he said.

He added that two flights — Paris-Newark and Frankfurt-Chicago — had been delayed and would take-off from Delhi later in the day.

Meanwhile, an Air India spokesperson said till the airport was opened for operations, all flights from the US and Europe would be diverted and terminated at Delhi. On the return journey, flights would take off from Delhi, skipping Mumbai.

Among the flights that AI has diverted to the Capital are the London-New York and the Frankfurt-Los Angeles flights, which normally operate to Mumbai. These two flights have since taken off on the return journey.

The AI spokesperson added that a flight to New Jersey would take off from Delhi subject to the availability of aircraft. Similarly, flights on the Hong Kong-Delhi-Mumbai and the Bangkok-Delhi-Mumbai sectors were being terminated at Delhi.
