Heavy rains forecast in Gujarat

Our Bureau

Ahmedabad, July 28

THE Met Department has forecast heavy rains across Gujarat following the merger of two cyclonic systems over the State.

The cyclonic system that wreaked havoc in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra has moved northwards into Gujarat and merged with another system that had formed over Madhya Pradesh and South Rajasthan.

The Met Department has noticed strong upper air circulation over the State and predicted heavy rainfall across Gujarat.

"We have issued a warning that is valid till July 29 (Friday). Ports have been alerted and fishermen have been advised to stay at home," Mr R.K. Bakliwal, Director, India Meteorological Department (Gujarat Region), told Business Line on Thursday.

The intensity of rainfall would, however, be slightly lesser in Kutch and Saurashtra regions of the State, Mr Bakliwal said.
