Thiruvananthapuram , July 29 THE southwest monsoon has improved its performance by turning in rainfall 2 per cent above normal as per the statistics (up to July 27) provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The actual rainfall till July 27 was 426.4 mm against a normal of 418.2 mm, a departure of +2 per cent. Monsoon was `excess' in 11 met subdivisions (unchanged from figures up till July 20), `normal' in 20 (18), while `deficient' only in five (seven) sub-divisions. The five sub-divisions that continued to hold `deficient' figures (in percentage) were Bihar (-21), Arunachal Pradesh (-22), Assam and Meghalaya (-29), Jharkhand (-33), and Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura (-44). Notable turnarounds included Telengana (+47), Marathwada (+29), Konkan and Goa (+2), Vidarbha (-4, normal), Orissa (-8, normal), Tamil Nadu (-9, normal), and Chhattisgarh (-11, normal).
