Our Bureau

New Delhi , July 31

MR J.P. BATRA took over as Chairman of Railway Board today with the assertion that safety and security of passengers and Railways would be his top priority.

Mr B.G. Ghosh joined as new Railway Board Member (Traffic) in place of Mr R.N. Aga, who retired today.

"Security has always been important for the Railways. I will accord top priority to it," Mr Batra told reporters soon after assuming charge from Mr R.K. Singh, who demitted office after 38-years of service in the Railways.

He was also of the view that since Railways income was growing fast, "We have to provide adequate facilities to its consumers (passengers) to retain their faith in the national life line."

Mr Batra's earlier postings include General Manager, East Central Railway, Hajipur; General Manager, North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur; Additional Member (Tourism & Catering), Railway Board, among others.
