MR C. Anjaneya Reddy, Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, has called for efforts to bring in professionalism to help the country convert the huge potential in tourism and allied sectors into an opportunity.
Mr Reddy, who is also the Chairman of the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM), said China had woken up to the potential early and accordingly planned to tap it. It attracted 35 million foreign tourists, against 3.5 million in India.
He was addressing a group of students taking their Master's degree in business management at NITHM here on Monday.
A joint venture between the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corp and the Union Ministry of Tourism, NITHM aims to produce quality manpower required for tourism and allied sectors.
"We are training our students to become individual tourism service providers," he said.
Prof K.C. Reddy, Chairman of AP State Council of Higher Education, said the gap between the requirements of the industry and education was being reduced.
He said the curriculum should be prepared keeping in mind the requirements of the industry.
The 3 Es paradigm (education, employment and economy) is gaining currency all over the world.
