New Delhi , Aug. 1

THE annual Plan of Goa for the current fiscal has been determined at Rs 1,025 crore at a meeting here between the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the Goa Chief Minister, Mr Pratapsinh Rane.

The Plan outlay covers additional Central assistance of Rs 6 crore for schemes of special interest to the State.

In his remarks, Mr Ahluwalia complimented the State for sound economic, social and demographic indicators scored by Goa and called for promotion of bio-fertilisers, high value agriculture and horticulture and expeditious completion of ongoing irrigation projects. He also underlined the need to market Goa as a tourist destination and promote hinterland tourism.

The Chief Minister informed the Plan panel about the improving financial position of the State and its efforts to provide quality education and improved governance through information technology.
