Upper Ganges net rises 64 %

MUMBAI: Upper Ganges Sugar & Industries Ltd (Upper Ganges), a K K Birla Group company, has reported a 64.29 per cent jump in its profit before depreciation and tax (PBDT) at Rs 5,930.69 lakh and 25.31 per cent rise in turnover at Rs 329.65 crore for the year ended June 30, 2005 as against PBDT of Rs 36.10 crore and turnover of Rs 263.07 crore for the year ended June 2004.

Due to overall decline in availability of sugarcane in the country, the production of sugar by Upper Ganges during the season 2004-05 was marginally lower at 16.06 lakh quintals as against 16.35 lakh quintals during the previous season.
