AIMED at improving the standards of clinical research and its ethical practices with focus on patients' safety, the Indian Society for Clinical Research (ISCR) has been launched here on Monday.
"It is a broad-based association where clinical research professionals across the country could network and contribute to the development of the industry," the ISCR President, Dr Shoibal Mukherjee, said.
Addressing newspersons, he said the ISCR would provide a forum for exchange of information and learning in a speciality area that was fast becoming an important industry in the country.
The ICSR would also create a repository of information on clinical research in the country that would be made available on the Internet. The Society aims to monitor legislative and regulatory developments and make representations to the Government and other agencies on behalf of the clinical research community.
Through the Society, patients and patient support groups can interact with clinical research experts. Further, ISCR would also provide expert training to the new entrants in the clinical research space, Dr Mukherjee said.
On the rising trend of clinical research activities in the country, Dr Mukherjee said it allows patients early access to potentially life-saving therapies. While acknowledging the efforts of the Government in creating a regulatory atmosphere, he said the ISCR would unify the efforts of all the stakeholders and bring them together. Further, Dr Shoibal Mukherjee said: "The ISCR proposes to launch a number of initiatives in the coming months with a focus on patients needs, investigations, CROs and pharmaceutical companies with an overall view of enhancing the ethical standards and quality of clinical research in India."
