The Hindu Metroplus theatre fest from Aug 5

FOR an 11-day stretch, beginning August 5, theatre lovers in the city are in for a jam-packed schedule of ten public performances of nine different plays, courtesy The Hindu Metroplus Madras Theatre Festival.
Kicking off the inaugural edition of the theatre festival, the event would feature nine plays: five from groups in Chennai, two from Mumbai and one each from Bangalore and Delhi.
Mr V. Kalidas, Chief Advertisement Manager, The Hindu, said the festival is aimed at bringing the best of English theatre to Chennai audiences.
As part of the festival, workshops by professionals on various aspects of theatre would be held. Among the plays which will be staged are Girish Karnad's `A heap of broken images', Magic Lantern's `Bell Jar/Zoo story', Lilette Dubey's `Dance like a Man', Madras Players' `BBC Whodunnit'.
The presenting sponsor of the theatre festival is HLL's Bru Malabar, while the associate sponsors are Bose India, Ayush Therapy Centre and Prince Jewellery, Chennai. The Park Chennai is the official host and evam the logistics partner.
