Shipping Far Shipping launches service between Chennai, Jebel Ali Our Bureau
Chennai , Aug. 1 FAR Shipping Lines Pte Ltd, a Chinese shipping company, has launched a direct shipping service between Chennai and Jebel Ali. This is the first direct service from the city to Persian Gulf, says a press release issued by the Chennai Container Terminal Ltd, which is managed by P&O Ports. The company will deploy a 1,000-TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) vessel (Budi Aman) to operate this service. A.S. Shipping is the local agent for Far Shipping. On its maiden call on Monday the vessel discharged 66 containers and loaded 200 export containers. The service will benefit exporters of mango pulp, tyres and granites. Prior to the launch of this service, export and import containers were transhipped at Colombo port resulting in additional cost in terms of feeder charges and transhipment charges, says the release.
