Bangalore , Aug 1

SATNAM Overseas, leading exporter of basmati rice and ready-to-eat food manufacturing company, has commenced commercial production in its rice mill in the UK.

The company said its ready-to-eat foods brand was also available through `Somerfield', a leading retail chain in the UK.

The commencement of production from this quarter should give a boost to the company's export earnings of its branded Basmati rice.

The company's branded basmati exports went up by 51.6 per cent to Rs 11.8 crore for the current quarter against Rs 7.8 crore for the same period in 2004.

Mr Gurnam Arora, Jt. Managing Director, said: "With the commencement of commercial production of our rice mill in the UK we expect to see a spurt in sales to the larger retail chains in Europe."
