HYDERABAD: Relisys Medical Devices Ltd, a Hyderabad-based stent and catheter manufacturer, has entered into an agreement with a German company to launch international clinical trials on a drug eluting stent that reduces tissue inflammation and reaction.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr N Krishna Reddy, Chairman of the company, said the agreement with Blue Membranes GmbH would enhance the performance of the company's cobalt-chromium stent.

The animal trials for the carbon-carbon coated stent were completed at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at Washington.

"Now multinational clinical trials would begin in countries such as India and Brazil. Spanning over 10-12 months, the trails would randomise 150 patients in nearly 15 centres," Dr Krishna Reddy said.

The company's catheter facility would be ready by the year-end. The trial production was slated for January next.
