Hyundai sales skid in July

HYUNDAI Motor India sold 19,286 vehicles in July 2005, 355 vehicles fewer than it sold in July 2004, when total sales were 19,641 units.

Domestic sales in July 2005 were 10,746 units against 13,012 vehicles in the same month last year, a 17 per cent drop while exports were 8,540 units in July 2005 compared to 6,629 units for the same period last month, a 29 per cent growth.

Hyundai Motor India's press release on Tuesday, which did not provide comparative sales figures for July 2004, said the company sold 1,42,282 vehicles in January-July 2005, a 28 per cent increase over the 1,10,997 units it sold in the same period last year.

In July 2005, the company sold 16,160 units in the A2 segment (Santro and Getz), 2,860 in the A3 segment (Accent), 107 in the A4 segment (Elantra), 12 in the A5 segment (Sonata) and 147 sports utility vehicles (Tucson and Terracan).

Information available on the company's Web site shows that in July 2004 it sold 16,522 units of the Santro, 2,555 units of Accent, 522 units of the Elantra, 50 units of the Sonata and 57 units of the Terracan. The Getz was launched in September 2004 and the Tucson in April 2005.
