Rubber prices dip on global uncertainty

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Aug 3

SPOT rubber prices declined further on Wednesday. Though the overseas futures were in passive mood and there was an almost steady close in major indices, the domestic markets shed the gains in the absence of quantum buyers as the uncertainty in the global scene initiated an all-round selling spree in all grades.

The covering groups turned inactive, as major manufacturers were not interested in giving revised quotations as expected.

Sheet rubber fell to Rs 68.25 and Rs 67.50 respectively at Kottayam and Kochi, from Rs 68.50 on Tuesday.

The trend was mixed as ungraded rubber and latex closed flat while the other grades lost on strong buyer resistance.

The rubber futures continued to move down quoting the August contract at Rs 68 (68.63), September at Rs 64.29 (64.87), October at Rs 61.34 (61.86), and November at Rs 60.70 (60.98) a kg for RSS 4.

The volumes were comparatively dull at 1,700 lots till noon, with 865 lots traded in August, 787 in September, 39 in October, and nine in November.

At TOCOM, the September futures for RSS 3 closed at 194.1 yen against 194 yen on Tuesday. The grade improved to Rs 76.28 from Rs 75.92 a kg at Bangkok.

Spot prices a kg were: RSS-4 68.25 (68.50), RSS-5 64 (64.50), ungraded 60 (60), ISNR 20 58.50 (59), and latex 60 % 41 (41).
