Bangalore , Aug. 3 INFOSYS Technologies plans to invest $10 million over two years to set up a 1,000-seat development facility in Shanghai. The software major's Chinese subsidiary Infosys Technologies (Shanghai) Company Ltd has signed a letter of intent with Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park to set up the development facility. Infosys has about 250 employees in China. The new project is expected to start by January 2006 and will have technological infrastructure for software services and recreational facilities for the employees, similar to those at other development centres of Infosys. Mr James Lin, CEO and MD, Infosys Technologies (Shanghai) Company Ltd, said the new centre would undertake projects in software development, IT services, and IT-enabled services. The centre will also act as one of the company's training and research centres. "Infosys follows a strategy of setting up world-class software development centres in locations where there is rich local talent as well as the required infrastructure. Our new development centre in Shanghai will stand as a testimony to China's significant strides in the promotion of IT," said Mr Lin. "The Shanghai centre will also enable us to combine the local talent with Infosys' global delivery model to provide our clients with best-in-class services," he added.
