Events Infovision-2005 to bring together industry, academia Our Bureau
Bangalore , Aug. 4 A TWO-DAY summit, Infovision-2005, that underlines the participation of stakeholders in the world of information, which includes academia and technology providers and user group, is expected to throw up issues that could lead to shape the needs of a new information society. The summit slated for September 15 and 16 would be held here with representation from IT and industries, research institutions, content management organisations and academia. Announcing the details about the summit, Mr S. Sadagopan, Director, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), said information and knowledge are the critical assets of a knowledge economy and contents and the hardware and software industries act as its backbone. Corporate and academia could provide insights into trends and developments for the industry for developing a roadmap for content development for the global knowledge economy. Prof. N. Balakrishnan, Chairman, Division of Information Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, said with the world of information becoming borderless it is imperative to strike a balance between free sharing of the resources and protecting the economic interest of propriety information. The Infovision 2005 could lead to some direction for a proper policy framework, he said. About 500 delegates and the student community are expected to participate in the summit. Prominent speakers including Mr R.A. Mashelkar, Director-General Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Mr P. Anandan, Managing Director, Microsoft Research, India, Mr Jean Claude Guedon, Professor, University of Montreal, Mr Ronald Larsen, Dean, School of Information Science, University of Pittsburgh, among others would take part..
