BUSINESS software vendor SAP said on Thursday that its Indian business grew by 50 per cent in the first half of 2005, compared to corresponding last year, as it signed up more new customers during the first six months.

The company, however, did not disclose its revenues for the Indian market.

SAP added 70 new customers in the first half of 2005 taking its total customer base to 730. New wins included corporates such as Dabur, Eureka Forbes, Mahindra & Mahindra, Videocon, among others.

The new wins included 42 customers in the small and medium businesses. SAP said it saw significant momentum in key verticals such as consumer products, retail, utilities and banking.

"The first half year was outstanding for SAP in India," said Mr Alan Sedghi, President and CEO, SAP South Asia.

Our accelerated regional performance is attributable to keeping a strong focus on innovation and organic growth to build and maintain a robust, complete and integrated portfolio and continue to meet the needs of our customers with a clear, concise industry best practice roadmap for the future of their software investments."
