Tea 55 catalogued teas fetch higher than average price P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , Aug 5 FIFTY-FIVE catalogued teas from the small scale private factories in the Nilgiris, called the bought-leaf factories, have fetched at least Rs 5 a kg more than the district average at the auctions of the Coonoor Tea trade Association so far this year. A study by the Tea Board and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of the UPASI said this was possible due to healthy competition among bought-leaf factories to improve quality . The district average during the periodunder study was Rs 42.09 a kg. But, the 17,990 kgs sold by Darmona Estate topped the list fetching an average price of Rs 79.39. It is the only tea, which fetched more than Rs 70 a kg on the average. Its dust grades averaged the highest price of Rs 82.54 while leaf grades fetched Rs 77.02.
