Outlook Samsung targets 45 pc growth in Kerala this year Our Bureau
Kochi , Aug. 5 SAMSUNG India Electronics Ltd aims to achieve a 45 per cent growth in the State this year with a targeted sales turnover of Rs 175 crore. Of this, Rs 85 crore will be mopped up during the three-month Onam festival period, Mr R. Zutshi, Deputy Managing Director, said. Unveiling the Onam promotional initiatives at a press meet here on Friday, Mr Zutshi said sale of hi-end TVs, home theatres and digital media products would be the growth driver for increasing the business in the State this year. The company expects a considerable business growth in the State on the strength of its product introductions as well as its consumer offer in the festival period - Samsung Sammana Thoni - that kicks off on August 7. Samsung had launched eight home theatre models, six digital audio players, nine still digital cameras and SlimFit TVs. The promotional offer, which is valid till September 16, entails an assured gift to the consumer on purchase of a Samsung product. The promotion device includes a wooden boat with the oar hiding the name of the gift to be won. "Onam always sets a benchmark for all the incoming festivals in India," said Mr Zutshi. According to him, Samsung this year is expanding its dealer channel network in the State by 20 per cent and plans to consolidate its no.1 position in colour TVs (both conventional and flat TV), washing machines and frost-free refrigerators in Kerala. He said the company achieved a turnover of Rs 4,900 crore last year in the country and targets Rs 6,500 crore this year. Exports to West Asia and the SAARC countries contributed Rs 100 crore last year. Mr Zutshi said south India accounts for 27 per cent of sales of Samsung products. Of this, Kerala's share is 14 per cent, he said.
