Events India to be venue for Microsoft's Imagine Cup '06 Our Bureau
Bangalore , Aug. 8 MICROSOFT Corporation announced on Monday that India has been selected as the venue for Imagine Cup 2006, an annual worldwide contest held by Microsoft to help students across the world showcase their software development skills. The theme for next year's contest is `imagine a world where technology enables us to live healthier lives'. India has emerged as the world's IT nation with diverse technology talent, making it an ideal destination for a global showcase of innovative solutions. The announcement was made at the Imagine Cup 2005 world finals that recently concluded in Japan. Over 16,000 students from 92 countries participated in the contest this year. Nearly 6,000 students participated from India, making it the country with the second highest entries. The contest includes nine "open" categories, such as Software Design, Technology Business plan and Rendering, and three special categories created only for school students. This year, Ishan Shukla and Mayur Karthik from BITS, Pilani, stood second in the Short Film category, and won prize money of $4,000. In the Business Plan category, Santhosh Ramdoss, Deepak Bhatter, Anitha Parthasarthy and Anand Venkatraman from Bharathidasan Institute of Management were ranked first and received prize money of $8,000; Abhishek Singh and Udaya Bhaskar Rao from the National Institute of Technology were adjudged third, winning prize money of $3,000. Also, Varun Srinivasan from The International School, Bangalore, stood third worldwide in the IT - High School category, and received prize money of $1,500. The theme for Imagine Cup 2005 was `Breaking down Boundaries', and students were encouraged to conceptualise technology solutions to help address emerging social issues.
