EXPORTS to Africa are likely to touch $6 billion by 2010 from the existing level of $2 billion, according to a paper brought out by Assocham on `India-Africa Partnership for Progress'.
In order to accomplish the projections for exports, Assocham has identified seven key areas in which joint ventures should be encouraged between Indian and African industries on priority basis.
The suggested areas are food processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, floriculture, leather processing, port development, and mining.
The paper also suggests that until arrangements are made for proposed joint ventures, Indian industry should concentrate on accelerating exports of items such as transformers, switchgear, transmission lines, capacitors, electrical fittings, agriculture pump sets, electric motors, bulldozers, four-and two-wheelers, sanitary ware, textile and leather products, bulk drugs and aluminium packaging foils, inorganic and organic chemicals, and software packages.
