Chennai , Aug. 9

THE way out for a number of small and medium business process outsourcing enterprises, which are coming under the threat of closure because of pricing pressures, is to turn their attention to marketing and financial analytics, said Mr O.R.S. Rao, Head, Cygnus Business Consulting & Research (CBCR).

CBCR is a business research and consulting organisation based in Hyderabad. The company offers research in areas such as market assessment, market entry strategies, WTO impact studies and industry monitors.

According to a recent study by CBCR, in 2004-05, the biotechnology industry in the country crossed Rs 4,700 crore in revenues and is estimated to grow at over 47 per cent over the previous year. By 2010, the industry is expected to grow to Rs 24,000 crore, Mr Rao said.

The study added that 35 per cent of the industry would be in services, which include clinical trials, bio-informatics and research. The key to success in this field will be to build the right skills. There will be a need for inter-disciplinary programmes in management and law, Mr Rao said.
