`Direct post' service launched in Madurai

THE Department of Posts here has launched a `Direct Post' service that will enable manufacturers and business houses to send promotional campaign material to their target audience at a low cost.

According to the Manager, Business Development, Regional Office, Mr R. Damodarakannan, the service is offered at a rate of Rs 1.50 for local delivery and Rs 2 for anywhere in India for articles weighing up to 20 g. For every additional 20 g, Re 1 will be charged both for local and inter-city articles. A minimum of 1,000 articles need to be sent at a time.

A discount of 5 per cent will be given for mailing of over 50,000 articles. The articles posted under Direct Post will not need any address or name. The articles, however, should not be posted in the letter box, he added.
