Concor to build link road at Jamshedpur ICD

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Aug. 10

THE Container Corporation of India (Concor) will construct a road linking its inland container depot (ICD) at Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) with the nearby Burma mines area. A truck terminal will also be constructed as part of efforts to upgrade approaches to the ICD and facilitate movement of boxes to and from it.

The estimated Rs 3-crore project would be funded by the Jharkhand Government with assistance from the Centre under the ASIDE (Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure) scheme.

Concor received the first tranche of Rs 1 crore from Jharkhand Chief Minister, Mr Arjun Munda, in Ranchi recently.

Domestic movement accounts for the bulk of Jamshedpur ICD's throughputs. With its terminal now operational within the Kolkata Dock System, Concor is keen to utilise it optimally and is, accordingly, trying to route some of Tata Steel's exports through the local ICD.

The Jharkhand Government is believed to have urged Concor to work out a toll system for the road but the latter appears not too keen on it.

The Chhattisgarh Government has agreed to provide Concor funds under the ASIDE scheme to upgrade infrastructure in and around Raipur ICD. At the Aurangabad (Maharashtra) ICD, Concor shared the cost of infrastructure development with the State Government.

However, Concor's experience has been different with the Assam Government for the development of infrastructure in and around the Amingaon ICD near Guwahati. Its appeal for funds under the ASIDE scheme apparently went unheeded.

Similarly, there was no assistance from the North-Eastern Council, which is reportedly flush with funds.
