New Delhi , Aug. 10

MYANMAR Airways International (MAI), which had been offering flights to Bangkok for as low as Rs 6,999, is to suspend flights on the Delhi-Yangon sector from September 15.

The airline has said it is committed to the Indian market and hopes to resume operations from early next year.

The airline started flights to Delhi in March 2004 operating three times a week on the Delhi-Yangon sector.

MAI offers immediate connections from Yangon to several destinations in the Far-East, including Bangkok and Singapore.

In a communication to travel agents, the airline has said it has decided to "seasonally" suspend operations on the Delhi-Yangon sector from September 15.

However, the airline has assured both the agents and its passengers that it will maintain its normal operations to India and honour all tickets issued for travel till September 15.

"MAI intends to remain in the Indian market, as well as hopefully resume operations in early 2006," the communication adds.

Sources indicated that the airline hoped to re-launch operations next year with a larger aircraft.

The airline currently operates a Boeing 737 aircraft between Delhi and Yangon.

The airline has a small fleet of Boeing 737 and MD-82 aircraft.
