Education I2IT inks pact with US varsity to offer Master's in automotive engg Our Bureau
Pune , Aug 10 THE Pune-based International Institute of Information Technology (I2IT), in academic collaboration with Lawrence Technological University (LTU) of the US, is introducing a Master's programme in automotive engineering. Speaking to newspersons, Prof Krishna Moorthy, Director of I2IT, said that the aim was to provide automotive education in the country; I2IT would provide the infrastructure facilities and LTU would provide the faculty expertise and course content. He added that I2IT would be announcing the dates of the commencement of the programme in October. This will be under the joint programme delivery agreement between I2IT and LTU. The course content would include body and chassis systems, automotive manufacturing, automotive mechanical and electrical systems, power train systems, quality control, and engineering management. The career opportunities are in manufacturing of two- and three-wheelers, heavy vehicles, cars and speciality vehicles for Defence, manufacturing of auto components, sub-assemblies, sourcing and purchasing of auto components, sales and services, design & R&D, and entrepreneurial ventures. Prof Krishna Moorthy said that the course duration would be for 23 months and the first batch would have 15 students. The entire course fee structure would be Rs 6.2 lakh. The course would be divided into four semesters; the first semester of about five months would be held in India, while the second and third would be held at LTU. For the fourth, the students would return to India to complete the course. This educational alliance was clinched in the presence of Mr P.P. Chhabria, Chairman of Finolex group, Dr Vijay Bhatkar, Mentor of I2IT, Ms Aruna Katara, Managing Trustee of Hope Foundation, and Dr Lewis N. Walker, Executive Vice-President and Provost of LTU. LTU is a private, accredited University that offers over 50 degrees through colleges of architecture and design, arts and sciences, engineering, and management. Nearly 5,000 students are enrolled in UG, Master's, and doctoral programmes in full-time or part-time courses.
