Centre favours marine parks in Kerala

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Government will consider favourably a proposal by Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) to set up two `marine parks' in the State. According to a Kinfra press release, this assurance was given by Mr Subodh Kant Sahay, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Food Processing, to a delegation from Kerala led by the State Industries Minister, Mr V.K. Ebrahim Kunju.

The Kinfra proposal envisages the establishment of two parks, one each in Kollam and Kannur, for the seafood industry. These would be similar to the seafood park at Aroor in Alappuzha district. Kinfra is in discussion with seafood entrepreneurs on plans to set up the `marine parks', the release adds.
