Human Resources Grooming staff the Wipro way Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Aug. 10 WHAT do you do you when you have a workforce of about 44,000 spread across 33 centres working on a broad spectrum of services and engaged in an industry where change is constant? This is a major challenge large corporations, such as IBM, Walmart and FedEx, face globally and one way has been to develop loads of information by creation of banks that help its employees keep abreast of the latest developments at the click of a mouse. The Vice-President of Wipro Technologies, Mr B. Krishnamurthy, quoting management guru Mr Tom Peters said: "Only those who constantly retrain and re-skill, stand a chance for employment and stay ahead." Mr Krishnamurthy, who heads Wipro's Hyderabad operations, said CBT (computer-based training) was a way of life till late 90s and once Internet gradually became popular, the effort has been to bring the best of information on to their workstations and help them re-skill themselves. "We have taken to e-learning in a big way, the content is updated regularly and offered as courseware for employees. About 800 titles are now available on the Net for employees and the list keeps expanding. Still a lot of domain expertise is required to cover more areas," he explained.
