GLOBAL consumer brands company Fortune Brands today said it had acquired the Teacher's Scotch Whisky brand in India.

The acquisition has been done through the company's spirits and wine business, Jim Beam Brands Worldwide Inc, the company said in a statement. This follows the acquisition of over 20 spirits and wine brands by Fortune from Pernod Ricard, after its takeover of Allied Domecq.

"We recognise the great potential and opportunity for Teacher's Scotch whisky in the country and we will work closely with the team behind the successful operations in India," the Jim Beam Brands Global Vice-President, Mr Rupert Patrick, said in the statement.

He said the company is currently involved in the integration process for the business following the acquisition.
