Baldev Raj is new president of Indian Institute of Metals

DR Baldev Raj, Director of Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) and a distinguished scientist, has been elected the Honorary President of the Indian Institute of Metals.
Headquartered at Kolkata, Indian Institute of Metals is a premier professional body involved in activities relating to minerals, metallurgy and materials, and has over 8,000 members spread across 52 chapters in the country.
The steering team consists of Mr B. Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel, Jamshedpur, Dr S. Banerjee, Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, Mr L. Pugazhenthi, Managing Director, ILZDC, New Delhi and Mr J.C. Marwah, Hon. Secretary, Managing Director, Edcons, Kolkata.
According to a press release, Dr Baldev Raj has outlined a comprehensive road map for the institute for 2005-06. It would play a pivotal role in human resource development and would initiate the extensive formation of student chapters under the supervision of respective local chapters. The institute will also take initiatives to boost industry-academia-research institution interactions by conducting symposia on broad fronts of emerging materials technologies, materials processing and products. It will also be organising several refresher courses catering to the needs of various industries. As part of India Vision 2020, the institute will participate in networking the expertise and resources available in the country.
