Employees seek repeal of Prasar Bharati Act

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Aug. 13

EMPLOYEES of Prasar Bharati today demanded an immediate repeal of the Prasar Bharati Act as it is "totally unviable" in the present form and has taken them back into Government fold.

Members of the National Federation of Akashvani and Doordarshan Employees (NFADE) met the Prime Minister on Friday. They said that assurances of setting up a Group of Ministers (GoM) were given.

Mr Robin Dasgupta, Chairman, NFADE, said that the Government could not disown the employees of Prasar Bharati. "Make Prasar Bharati a Constitutional body like the Supreme Court, UPSC and Election Commission," they demanded, saying this would ensure financial support to the body from the Consolidated Fund of India.
