Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, directed the officials to shore up the infrastructure in the State Capital to deal with natural disasters and cope up with contingencies such as heavy rainfall.

The issue of preparedness of the city to manage a deluge of the order of Mumbai was in question during his review with senior officials of municipal administration and urban development held at his camp office on Saturday, according to a State press release.

The Chief Minister directed that the administration should spruce up and streamline in all sectors such as drainage and sewerage systems, flyovers, foot bridges, road widening, foot paths, greenery and lung spaces besides massive operations for scientific garbage clearance in the State Capital.

Dr Reddy has asked the officials to come up with a detailed roadmap for both short-term and long-term plans for improvement of the State Capital as well as all major municipalities in the State. He also directed the officials to prepare a roadmap for carrying out studies, designs and estimates of storm water and underground drainage in all municipalities, the release said.
