Nod for town square scheme in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Tourism's scheme to develop `town squares' in important tourist destinations has been approved by the State Government.

According to an official press release, the tourism department and local government bodies will jointly implement the scheme.

Public toilets, parking areas, meeting areas and tourism information centres are some of the amenities to be created as part of this project. The maximum amount that can be spent on developing a `town square' is Rs 1 crore, of which the tourism department will invest up to Rs 50 lakh, the release adds.
